KARATE TRAINING REQUIRES DISCIPLINE

In this section you will find our rules of conduct along with the Morality of Karate and Manners and Directions for Trainees of ShorinKan. It is often very hard for people to adjust, both students and parents alike, to the strict adherence a Karate school will have to how students are to behave. Our rules and ethics are here to help outline clear expectations of students and visitors to the dojo. Franz Sensei is a very easy going person but he does sit in the position of authority and will be respected as such by all students, as well as their family members, at all times.

Our dojo is traditional. This means that we, like the do in Okinawa, will follow the character development traits of the traditions to honor those who came before us. The traditions of Okinawa are much different than here in the USA and it will take some time to adjust to them. The worst thing a student, or parent, could do is not have their mind open enough to learn and understand them. We love to teach others the art of Karate but we will not sacrifice the integrity of our art to do so. Abusing the traditions is not permitted either. Be it a black belt or student, we will not use the traditions of the dojo as manner in which to belittle others.

Since you have become a student of our dojo we welcome you to learning all about Karate which is more than just physical...enjoy the cultural differences, learn with an open mind and attend your classes are requested. Be consistent in your training so you don't harm your own progress. Always remember that we are here to build your self-discipline which requires us to discipline. We are here to build your character which requires us to challenge your comfort zone. We are here to teach you Karate which requires us to follow the rules, ethics and traditions of our art.
