Naihanchi Kata

The Naihanchi series of Kata are very old. We are not really certain of the development into a set of three Kata but we are aware that Naihanchi Shodan is one of the oldest and most important Kata in Okinawan Karate. Naihanchi Kata are unique in that the traverse side to side thus teaching students angular self defense and fast footwork ability. A key characteristic of the Naihanchi Kata is that they are performed with hip twisting powerful movements and use the Niahanchi stance (toes pointed inward).
